Today we hosted the Japanese ambassador to Poland, Miyajima Akio. This was the first official visit of the new ambassador, who took office in December 2020. Mr. Ambassador was accompanied by First Secretary Michiko Makino, and they were shown around the garden by Directors Prof. Arkadiusz Nowak and Dr. Pawel Kojs, Chairman of the Scientific Council Prof. Jerzy Puchalski and Vice President of the Polish Academy of Sciences Prof. Romuald Zabielski.
The ambassador toured the Reiwa Sakura Teien collection of Asian plants, established in 2019, where a cherry tree was planted in July 2019 by the heir to the Japanese throne Prince Akishino and his wife Princess Kiko. Next to the tree is a commemorative sculpture unveiled on the first anniversary of their visit.
In Oak Avenue, guests viewed exhibitions prepared as part of this year's Japan Month: illustrations "Children of Hamamatsu" and photographic exhibition "4 Seasons", and in Villa Janówek - Leszek Jampolski's painting exhibition. There the guests stayed for a longer time, where over a cup of tea they discussed further cooperation between the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Embassy of Japan and jointly organized projects related to the promotion of the Land of the Cherry Blossom among Poles.
