On Saturday, October 19, the 3rd edition of the Heaviest Pumpkin Contest was held in our Garden. This year many seasoned, specialized and adult growers entered the competition, but also many who are just beginning their adventure with gardening - the youngest pumpkin lovers. A total of 7 pumpkins in the adult category and 7 pumpkins in the children's category took part in the competition.
The winning pumpkin in the adult category was the pumpkin DANJA - 888 kg (breeder Matthew Dabrowski, last year's winner), the second place was won by KALINA - 554 kg (breeder Adam Jurczuk), and the third JULIA - 539.5 kg (breeder Maciej Molek).
In the children's category, the heaviest pumpkin was the pumpkin UFO - 217 kg (breeder Krzysztof Olejniczak), second place was won by pumpkin GOLIAS JUNIOR weighing 26.5 kg (breeder Adam Ortynsky) and the third MIMI – 21,5 kg (breeder Antoni Yurchuk).
On that day, in addition to the competition for the heaviest pumpkin, there was also a regional fair of handicrafts, preserves and agricultural products, a walk with animal tracker-naturalist Rafal Roszkowski, a walk through the pumpkin collection with the head of the Education Department - Katarzyna Misiak, a pumpkin carving demonstration and a watercolor painting workshop. Our youngest guests spent time playing and doing creative activities with the Foundation Eco-fun, and those a little older attended the lecture "What is worth knowing about the pumpkin and its cousins?" conducted by Prof. Dr. Ewelina Hallmann from the Warsaw University of Life Sciences. In turn, our garden cafe served hot pumpkin soup, pumpkin pies and aromatic Pumpkin Latte to all thirsty and hungry participants of the event!
Congratulations to all the winners! We encourage all gardening enthusiasts to join in the fun next year. And we invite all supporters of pumpkins and autumn landscapes to visit us again this season to admire this year's winners surrounded by gilding ginkgo trees, reddening beech trees and grasses swaying in the wind, and, well, next year for another Pumpkin Day!
