On October 19, the Botanical Garden of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Powsin organizes the annual Pumpkin Day and the accompanying Third Competition for the Heaviest Pumpkin. Last year, the heaviest pumpkin in Poland turned out to be Dorotka, who achieved an impressive 907 kg. Dorotka was a participant in the contest, held in our Garden. We hope that this season we will beat last year's record!
Program of the day:
10.00 - 16.00 Autumn Fair of plants and regional products, along with tastings
11.00 - 15.00 Animation and art workshops for children and adults
11.00 - 12.00 Walk through the cucurbit collection with Garden educator Katarzyna Misiak
12.00 - 13.30 III FINAL OF THE CONTEST FOR THE HEAVIEST PUMPKIN
13.30 - 14.30 Lecture - What is worth knowing about pumpkin and its cousins? Prof. Ewelina Hallmann, PhD, SGGW in Warsaw.
14.30 - 15.00 Pumpkin carving demonstration
15.00 - 16.00 Watercolor workshop with autumn and pumpkin theme**.
And at the Botanica Cafe & Bistro, tasty variations with pumpkin in the lead role - sweet and salty.
Weighing of pumpkins, announcement of results and awarding of prizes - on October 19 at 13:00 during the Pumpkin Day celebration. The jury will select the largest pumpkin from among the submitted pumpkins, and its grower will be awarded a prize by the Director of the PAN Botanical Garden - Center for the Preservation of Biological Diversity in Powsin.
