FlorNaturOB project
Thanks to the nationwide project implemented in 2010-2013 within the framework of the Operational Program Infrastructure and Environment titled. "Ex situ conservation of wild, endangered and protected plants in eastern Poland - FlorNaturOB" sites were inspected, seeds of 61 vascular plant species, protected, rare or endangered from 161 natural sites from all over the country were collected to permanently secure their seeds in the cryobank at the Botanical Garden in Powsin. Only in the case of Polish warbler Cochlearia polonica and the yellow azalea (Pontic azalea) Rhododendron luteum Samples were taken at alternate sites. The activities covered, among others, 12 national parks of Poland (from Babiogórski and Białowieża to Tatrzański and Wigierski), numerous reserves, as well as dozens of populations not covered by any form of area protection. Among the latter, the ones most urgently in need of "banking" can be mentioned: the Matyska hill, the mosslands on Lake Ksiazhny, the moors in Losinians, the Pakoslaw swamp and the mosslands of Puszcza Wielka.
As part of the project u were creating a database: www.ogrod-powsin.pl/bazadanychFlorNaturOB.pdf and published a publication popularizing the goals and results of the project, as well as the relict and endemic species covered. On the occasion, knowledge of the biology of dormancy, germination and long-term storage of seeds without losing their germination capacity was supplemented. The "FlorNaturOB" project was complementary to the twin "FlorNaturLBG" (2009-2012), dedicated to species and sites in western Poland. Both projects found their continuation within the framework of the NFOŚiGW project "FlorNaturROBiA".
