A team of conservation botanists led by Prof. Arkadiusz Nowak has begun a first-of-its-kind experiment in the world to relocate coral nurseries. These are inconspicuous, herbless plants belonging to the orchid family that occur naturally in the lowlands in beech forests orchid. These plants are among those threatened with extinction, especially outside mountainous areas. The plant is under strict species protection in Poland and included in the Red List of Plants and Fungi of Poland. The threatened populations of the nursery were brought to our Garden as part of the so-called conservation translocation. They were placed in special glass and perforated boxes in specially prepared pits under the canopy of beech trees. In the pits and boxes, the soil profile characteristic of the forest rendzina found in the donor site was reconstructed. Risomes The nurseries have been placed on the tops of the cylinders in such a way that it is possible to observe them through sight cameras or after lifting the entire box. The aim is to learn about and monitor the behavioral status and developmental stage of the individuals. The experiment is planned for five years. It involves botanists - scientists - as well as horticulturalists and technical staff.
