A team of scientists is launching another project on biodiversity conservation in Tajikistan....

In cooperation with the Silesian Botanical Garden and the Nature Conservation Team from Dushanbe (Firuza Abdurakhimova, Dilshoda Yakubova, Sipar Yuldashev), Prof. Arkadiusz Nowak's team from our Garden is launching a conservation project on the protection of the biodiversity of the Baljuvon region located on the southern slopes of the Darwazki range in southwestern Tajikistan.

The tasks of the project, which involve the staff of our unit, are the development and preparation of a network of micro-preserves dedicated to endemic plant species, and the publication of information folders on endemics, useful plants and conservation of the Baljuvon area.

In addition, the project envisages the designation and creation of five hiking trails: tulip, holly, desert, tragan and garlic.

Seeds of 45 endemic species of Tajikistan will also be collected and deposited in the Seed Bank at our Garden.

The project is funded by the Critical Environment Partnership Fund (CEPF) and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
