In recent years, the interest of the staff of the Plant Anatomy Laboratory has focused, among other things, on quantitative wood anatomy (QWA - Qualitative Wood Anatomy). QWA is now supported by the use of automated techniques for microscopic image analysis and new preparation procedures (e.g., obtaining very long - i.e., up to 40 cm - cross-sections from collected borings using a special type of microtome - the so-called "microtome". core-microtome). The aforementioned techniques are used, among other things, in studying the response of trees to stress factors occurring during their growth and development. A problematic issue concerning the process of digitizing long tissue sections was the stabilization of preparations having unusual dimensions, as well as enabling their precise movement on the microscope table. As a result of cooperation between the Laboratory of Plant Anatomy of the Polish Academy of Sciences OB - CZRB in Powsin, the Forest Research Institute and the TECH-FORM Sp. z o.o. company, a special adapter was developed to enable stabilization of long microscope preparations. Two versions of the created adapter (the basic version, as well as the advanced version) were described in detail in an article published in the journal IAWA Journal (International Association of Wood Anatomists).

In turn, an improved version of the stabilizing adapter for long microscope slides was presented in an article published in the Polish journal Studies and Materials of CEPL in Rogów.
