Last Monday, representatives of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Tallinn received cuttings of garden plants traditionally grown in Poland, which were grown on the grounds of OB PAN in Powsin. This was at the same time a key stage of our garden's cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Tallinn within the framework of the "Polish herbarium" project implemented in museums-castles in Estonia. The seedlings donated by the garden's staff will enrich the herbarium in the courtyard of Haapsalu Castle and will be used to establish a new herbarium in Narva. Selected plant species were mentioned as valuable useful and garden species in works such as Szymon Syrenski's "Herbarium" (1613), Jan Biretowski's "Wiadomość ciekawa każdemu wielce pożyteczna o skutkach i mocy zbóż wszelkich, jarzyn i herbół rożnych" (1774), and Father Krzysztof Kluk's "Dykcjonarz Roślinny" (1786-1788). Among them were several species of sage, foxglove, mallow and burdock, as well as several weeds that have accompanied Polish gardeners for centuries. These included, for example, field bindweed, or the now critically endangered yellow-flowered oakmoss. We are very pleased to have been invited to cooperate in such an interesting project.
