This past Tuesday, June 27, a seminar was held with Alidovar Sodatsairov, who presented a topic on changes in flora and fauna caused by global warming and the retreat of glaciers in the Pamir mountains.

The purpose of the seminar was to present the assumptions of the project under development, which will be carried out in Tajikistan over the next three years, within the framework of which scientists of the PAS Botanical Garden will conduct extensive research on the effects of climate change in the region. The research will focus on aspects such as the expansion of native and non-native species, changes in the vertical ranges of plants, changes in the proportion of species richness below and above ground, competition between endemic and invasive species, and the taxonomic richness of so-called cryoconites, or glacial microecosystems. The research will be carried out in the vicinity of the Fedchenko Glacier (the longest mountain glacier in the world, about 78 km) and in the Mayakovsky Peak region on the border with Afghanistan
