Apple Day 2025 is behind us!
It was full of engaging lectures (more than 80 people!), walks and a fair. But the day was, above all, a reminder of the flavors of old apple varieties.
It all started traditionally - the caretakers of the pomology collection had their lectures: Anna Zaremba, Ryszard Rawski. It was a solid dose of professional knowledge. It was not without inquisitive questions from the floor and a bit of sentimental note - an outstanding specialist Anna Zaremba ended her many years of work for the Garden. With tears in her eyes with a beautiful bouquet of flowers, she was bid farewell by her long-time colleague from the Garden - Ryszard Rawski. Anna - thank you!
After them, other lecturers took the stage. And so Piotr Szymczak told what to pay attention to when establishing an orchard with old varieties. Dr. Halina Galera introduced us to the richness of apple symbolism under the heading "From Adam's apple to Apple iPad". And at the end of the lecture series, cider flavors and industrial uses of apples were outlined for us by Jan Tenderenda.
In turn, the competition for recognizing old varieties, which ended the lectures, turned out to be an excellent test for all lovers of apples and apple trees - and brought... a lot of excitement. It was a kind of time travel to the years of our childhood and such varieties as Kosztela, Antonówka and Kronselka (from the Kórnik Nursery - PAN Experimental Department in Kórnik).
The hot September day ended with a walk through the orchard collection, which was an opportunity to talk with our experts and the presentation of prizes to the winners of the contest (trees of old apple varieties). Thank you and see you next year!
PS. In addition to the fair - the apple trees were accompanied this year by an exhibition "Cacti and Succulents", where you could obtain knowledge about these exotic plants, learn about methods of their care and admire such curiosities as living stones!
