In the magazine Trees - Structure and Function An article has been published on the contribution of intrusion and symplastic growth of the developing ends of wood fibers.

Wood fibers play an important role in the mechanical strengthening of the tissue, as well as in determining the quality of the formed wood. The measurements and analysis of the tissues made it possible to conclude that in the initial stages of development, the growth of wood fibers in the tangential direction occurs exclusively in the intrusive path, while in the radial direction it is a combination of intrusive and symplastic growth (the average proportion of intrusive growth is 37.8%, symplastic growth is 62.2%).
