On Friday, June 7, we celebrated the 50th anniversary of our Garden. It is a place where nature and science intertwine in harmony, attracting plant lovers from all over the world.
At the outset, the Garden's director Prof. Arkadiusz Nowak welcomed the guests, among whom were representatives of local authorities, science, friends of the Garden and current and former employees. During the ceremony, President of the Polish Academy of Sciences Prof. Marek Konarzewski honored Director Prof. Arkadiusz Nowak and Director Dr. Pawel Kojs with medals of merit.
On the other hand, long-time Garden director Prof. Jerzy Puchalski shared his memories and reflections on his work at the Garden. His words were full of passion and gratitude for the years of work spent in this place. Later in the ceremony, representatives of institutions and organizations congratulated the directors of our Garden, emphasizing the importance of our Garden for science, education and biodiversity conservation.
The official gala was also followed by the unveiling of a plaque dedicated to the Central Asian plant collection and traveler and explorer Leon Barshchevsky. This collection is located near Reiwa Sakura Garden.
In the last part of the official anniversary celebrations, a plaque was unveiled for those who have made a contribution to the PAN Botanical Garden: prof. dr. hab. Roman Kobendza, prof. dr. hab. Boguslaw Molski, prof. dr. hab. Szczepan A. Pieniążek, Prof. Dr. Emil Nalborczyk and Prof. Dr. Jerzy Puchalski.
The beautiful, sunny day ended with music performed by the Dikanda band.
